The 2010 U.S. Census will begin this month with Census forms expected to start arriving in the mail March 15 to 17.
Census workers will go door to door from the end of April to July to households that didn't return the questionnaire.
Con artist can use this event to acquire personal information that can lead to identity theft.
A few things to watch for:
The forms or Census workers WILL NOT ask for your Social Security Number or ANY financial information, such as bank account numbers.
The Census Bureau WILL NOT contact you by email, the census forms can't be completed online.
Census workers will carry an ID badge with an expiration date and a Department of Commerce watermark.
If a Census worker does come to your residence, the workers are trained to conduct their business outside your door, DO NOT ALLOW ENTRY if requested by the worker.
Also, Census workers will not request any type of payment or donation.
Finally let me say how important it is to respond to the federal census. Many state and federal programs base their funding on populations identified by the Federal census. Therefore, responding to the census helps provide much needed resources to West Boylston, whether at the schools or our Council on Aging.
