The establishment of the Arts Council, now known as the Cultural Council was by vote of the Board of Selectmen in the mid 1970's. The Cultural Council consists of 5 to 22 members, appointed by the Town Administrator, each serving up to two consecutive 3-year terms.
Duties
The Cultural Council meets to decide how to distribute the grant money to projects in the arts, humanities and interpretive science. The program promotes the availability of rich cultural experiences for every Massachusetts citizen. They include school field trips, afterschool programs, concerts, festivals, lectures, theater, dance, music, and
film. The projects take place in schools, community centers, libraries, elder care facilities, town halls, parks, and wherever communities come together. Every area of Massachusetts is directly served by a Local Cultural Council.
