The The Transportation Committee consists of 5 members who are appointed by the Town Administrator for 3-year terms.
The Transportation Committee was a recommendation of the 2005 Master Plan and was established by vote of the Board of Selectmen on December 7, 2005. The Master Plan recommended that the Board of Selectmen appoint a Transportation Committee to insure that transportation issues remain on the front burner.
Membership and qualifications
The Transportation Committee originally consisted of seven West Boylston residents, however, on April 29, 2009 the Board of Selectmen, upon the recommendation of the Town Administrator, voted to reduce the membership number to five. Members of the Committee have various interests in transportation issues, including planning and public transportation, appointed to a three-year term. A member of the Planning Board, Board of Selectmen and the DPW Director shall be ex-officio members.
Duties
As transportation encompasses more than just the Route 12 corridor, the Committee will have dealings with the WRTA, MBTA, and Central Mass Regional Planning Commission. The Committee shall work towards implementing transportation goals found in the Route 12 Master Plan and the West Boylston master Plan and to offer suggestions to improve or add to the goals found in these two documents. Members may be asked to serve as Town liaisons to regional transportation organizations.
Mission
The mission of the Transportation Committee is to advise the Board of Selectmen and other Town Boards on transportation issues of importance to the Town of West Boylston. To study needs and implement targeted improvements (i.e. the Route 12 Corridor reconstruction, sidewalk and trail projects, dangerous intersections, etc.)
